Why Do we observe World Water Day?
World water Day is celebrated every year on 22nd March, the main aim is to inspire people to take crucial steps in order to address the global water crisis and to value the importance of freshwater. The primary goal is to support the Sustainable Development Goals also known as SDG 6, which is to provide water and sanitation to all by the year 2030.
History of World Water Day
The United Nation General Assembly on 22nd March, 1992 adopted a resolution on it and announced to dedicate this as Water Day. The motive was to spread awareness about water and its significance.
Theme of World Water Day
World War Day 2024 theme is ‘Water for Peace’. According to United Nations, water has the power to create and conflict and bring peace.
What is the significance of observing Water Day?
As per United Nations report, around 2.2 billion people are living in absence of access to safe drinking water. Water plays a very crucial role in our lives; it helps in connecting society and the environment at large.
The absence of proper management of the water cycle, there can be a surge in water crisis and will end up creating catastrophe in the sectors which are dependent on water.
The purpose of this day is to develop awareness amongst the people of conserving water and highlight the plight of the global water crisis. It also encourages people to take up the noble cause of conserving water.
