Alcohol is bad for your health. However, certain drinks may pose greater risk of damaging your health as compared to others. A new study has revealed that wine consumption may play a critical role in the increasing incidences of cancers.

A team of researchers have examined 40 medical studies that highlighted the impact of wines in the body especially its role in the cancer risk. The study analysed whether the incidence of cancer differs depending on whether one consumes red or white wine.

The findings of the study were published in the journal Nutrients recently.

Usually it is assumed that red wine is a healthier option than white wine because it contains a higher number of antioxidants.

The researchers discovered: “Every additional 10 (grams) of estimated ethanol (e.g., about one glass) from red wine per day was associated with a 5% increase in overall cancer risk.”

The scientists concluded that both wines had a similar cancer risk. However, they observed the white wine is more likely to increase the risk of skin cancer. The researchers issued a statement asserting: “Our findings provided a critical public health message that drinking red wine may not be any better than drinking white wine in terms of cancer risk.

“However, we added an important finding to the controversial conversation about whether red wine intake reduces cancer risk.”

“These low levels of resveratrol after consuming red wine may not result in bio-effective concentrations that may eventually make differences in health outcomes compared to white wine consumption,” the study stated.
