On June 10, 2019, when Yuvraj Singh announced his retirement at an emotional press conference, I knew watching cricket wouldn’t be the same. It was the end of an era as one of the best cricketers drew curtains to a fabulous career. Yuvraj Singh has been the finest white-ball cricketer in the history of sports. From hitting Stuart Broad for six successive sixes to being adjudged Man of the Series in India’s 2011 World Cup triumph, he has proved himself time and again. He is not just an inspiration to aspiring cricket players but he an inspiration to every individual. He has taught us to never give up.

World Cup is going on and one of my fondest memories of cricket would be your six sixes in a single over. I want you to take my readers back to the 2007 World Cup and explain how was the feeling. As Indians, we are so proud of you.

That is an unforgettable memory for all of us. I recently even shared a video on Instagram to mark the day. It’s a very special milestone for me and every time someone speaks about it, it is sure to bring back some wonderful memories of accomplishing great things for our country and for the fans who give us so much love. The cheer of the crowd, the victory, and the feeling of pride are all so fresh in my mind.

Yuvraj, being a sportsperson is not easy, and representing a country is an added responsibility. I want to understand how you deal with the anxiety or nervousness before every match.

I feel the presence of seniors and mentors on the team is a big plus. They have kept us grounded, showed us how to handle different situations, and always reminded us of the great responsibility of representing a cricket-playing nation. Off-field it was my fellow players and on-field it was always the fan’s cheer that was a source of tremendous motivation.

I’m sure every player has butterflies in their stomach before a major match. Is there any sort of training to manage that?

Staying grounded, following the process, believing in your abilities, and doing your very best at every given opportunity.

As someone who’s known for pushing boundaries and never giving up, how do you handle challenging situations in life? Could you offer some advice on resilience and determination?

My advice on resilience and determination is to never lose sight of your goals, even when obstacles seem insurmountable. Persevere and maintain a positive attitude; it can make a world of difference. Seek support from those around you and remember that it’s okay to ask for help when needed. Most importantly, believe in yourself and your abilities, because your mindset plays a crucial role in overcoming life’s challenges. With determination and resilience, you can overcome almost anything that comes your way.

Everyone should strive to live a healthy lifestyle. What steps can you take to maintain a balanced and healthy lifestyle? What does your everyday workout routine consist of?

Leading a healthy lifestyle in today’s fast-paced environment might be difficult, but it is vital. Finding healthy techniques to manage stress, such as meditation, yoga, or spending time in nature, are things that work for many of us. I keep a regular physical routine, consume a balanced diet, and get enough sleep.  Exercising benefits not only physical health but also mental wellness. It keeps me focused, energized, and upbeat.

Yuvraj, you are and always will be one of the best cricketers we’ve ever had. How does it feel when you look back at the legacy you’ve created? Did young Yuvi ever think of it?

These are very humbling words. I don’t think anybody can ever visualise how their life is going to pan out. I went after my passion and gave my best and the rest I feel is history.  I have always learned from my seniors on the team, and if today I can inspire someone, it is a matter of humility and pride for me.

The key lesson you feel cricket has taught you.

As a sportsperson, I had multiple obstacles and challenges. However, what impacted my journey was my ability to bounce back, and keep moving forward. I learned from cricket that failures don’t mean the end of the road; rather, they’re chances for individual development. Like many others, I have found that the unwavering support of Indian cricket fans has been crucial to my career. While working on the latest Vicks Cough drops project, I also came to understand the need for diversity. The #VicksKholIndiaBol cricket anthem not only encourages inclusivity and unity among fans, but it also serves as an effective signal that all is possible when we raise our voices in unity.

Tell us something about your association with Vicks.

When you’re on the pitch for your team, your country, there’s a lot on the line. You want to perform and give your best. We are motivated by our fans and spectators in the stadium, who are like family to us. Whenever we are happy, sad, excited, or nervous, our fans share our joy, enthusiasm, and nervousness with us. Their cheers motivate us during crucial moments. This is why I was thrilled to be part of the #VicksKholIndiaBol Cheer Anthem with Vicks Cough Drops.  The #VicksKholIndiaBol anthem, which serves as a powerful message that when we combine our voices, nothing is impossible to achieve, couldn’t have arrived at a better time, especially with the most important cricket series now underway. Like the rest of the 142 crore Indians, I am ecstatic and eager to cheer for our team.
