The title of ‘Emir,’ the supreme ruler of Qatar, has been held by 11 members of the Al-Thani family since the country’s founding. Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani assumed the title in 2013, succeeding his older brother Sheikh Jasim, who stepped back from the claim.
Born on June 3, 1980, Sheikh Tamim is the fourth son of former Amir Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani.
