A new meme has taken teenagers, and especially teenage boys by storm recently and it has everything to do with the numbers six and seven. Teenagers on social media have taken to spamming the number “67” in comments sections of posts or in the chat boxes of streamers. It has also spilled over to real life where they have begun randomly yelling out “six seven” in classes or homes to the complete befuddlement of parents and teachers.

So where did this viral meme come from?

A host of concerned adults are trying to pin point the origins of the meme so that they can connect better with their teenagers but are left confused after trying to understand the source. So let’s break it down for all the guardians who are worried about this “internet brain rot”.

The term “six seven” originates from the 2024 song “Doot Doot” by Philadelphia rapper Skrilla which blew up on TikTok in the latter half of the year and quickly spread to other social media platforms like Instagram and Twitch. It might possibly be a reference to police radio code or 67th street. According to Genius, “6-7 refers to the police code 10-67, which signifies that a death has occurred. It also alludes to 67th Street in Philadelphia, which Skrilla represents, and 6-7 may also be a shorthand for death via a reference to burial plots – six feet under and seven feet apart.”

However, Skrilla himself has stated, “I never put an actual meaning on it and I still would not want to,” in an interview with Washington Post. The song went viral after it was used to make fan edits of basketball player LaMello Ball, who also coincidentally happens to be 6 ft 7 inches. This was then referenced in March 2025 by the viral ’67 kid’ Maverick Trevillion who was seen repeatedly yelling the term at a basketball game while making excited hand gestures. It then caught on with Generation Alpha like wildfire and has since become a menace to classrooms everywhere.

What is the point of six-seven?

To simply put it, the phrase “six-seven” holds no specific significance to Generation Alpha beyond being “brain-rot”. For those who are not chronically online or simply unaware, in internet culture “brain rot” content refers to meaningless and simplistic memes which go insanely viral and become overused due to their catchy or repetitive quality.

Oxford named brain rot as the ‘Word of the Year’ for 2024 and defined it as, “The supposed deterioration of a person’s mental or intellectual state, especially viewed as the result of overconsumption of material (now particularly online content) considered to be trivial or unchallenging.”

“Six seven” is to Generation Alpha what “skibidi rizz” is to Gen Z or “on fleek” is to millennials. Every generation which has come into contact with the internet in their youth has been, at one time or another, caught up in regurgitating silly and meaningless phrases and confused the parents and teachers in their time. However, it must be noted that this is the first time that a phrase has been banned in several classrooms all over the world due to the rowdy nature of the Generation Alpha children who can’t seem to help themselves from screaming it in the middle of lessons.

So, while “six seven” is not technically a cause for concern; as it is not inappropriate for use by minors. It is definitely giving educators and parents a perpetual headache due to its incredibly annoying nature. One can only wait till this trend dies out as all trends do, but until then be prepared to be bombarded with random “six sevens” by your teenager.
