The original Jolly, from the Jolly LLB franchise, is the owner of a spectacular Portuguese-style home in Goa. Located in the solemn and peaceful village of Saligao, Casa Zen is nestled between lush green fields. Catching the rays of sunshine with its bright and vibrant colours, this property is more than a century old. Restored by the Bollywood actor and his wife, Maria Goretti, this villa is also available for rent.

The couple’s journey of acquiring the Goan paradise and bringing it back to life started in 2021. While this is not the first real estate adventure the couple has faced, Casa Zen is the story of those creative arguments and so much more. “This house is like a big, fat album of our life,” Warsi told Asian Paints during their ‘Where the Heart is’ series.

Stepping inside this North Goa property is nothing short of a visual adventure. Boasting the tropical themes, to a chic art gallery, it combines the couple’s aesthetic in a harmony. The dining room is everything exotic, and the maximalist decor complements the green surroundings of the house. The leaf-printed wallpaper brings a breath of fresh air, and the furniture and upholstery introduce a pop of colour. “I think sometimes less is more, but sometimes more is less,” said Goretti, summing up her feelings about her dining room.

Continuing the quirk, the villa also has a ‘blue room.’ Decorated with statement Plaster of Paris embellishments, it has been designed by Goretti herself. The cosy nooks bring a much-needed break from the hustle of the city and the never-ending nights of North Goa. The mission of staying at the house is clearly echoed by the sign at the door. It reads, “Peace to all who enter here”.

The 19th-century Casa Zen also flaunts a chic poolside with sunbeds and a bar. With windows that embody Portuguese architecture, the bright colours are attributed to Goretti’s taste and several of the home decor pieces that belong to her mother. It also has a brightly-lit art studio where Warsi often engages in his artistic interests.

An abode for DIY darlings, Casa Zen is all about sustainability. The shell windows and rounded archways remained intact where they were left to do the talking. Several parts of the house prioritise natural light, airy spaces, and standout statement murals by artist Smriti Sabbanwar.
