Aishwarya Rai Bachchan turned heads at the 78th Cannes Film Festival last month, stunning in custom-made gowns by designers Gaurav Gupta and Manish Malhotra. The former Miss World looked as graceful and radiant as ever. But it wasn’t just her red carpet style that caught attention. During a conversation with Harper’s Bazaar, Aishwarya shared a glimpse into her daily routine, which many believe is the secret behind her flawless skin and timeless glow.

The Bollywood icon shared that she starts her day very early. “It is 24 hours for the rest of the world, but we are trying to pack in a 48-hour day in 24. I think life has so much going on that it’s impossible to put it down to a single pattern. One thing’s for sure: my day definitely begins very early. My day starts at least at 5.30,” she said.

Even at 50, Aishwarya continues to be one of the most admired and graceful actors in the industry. Now a mother, she still manages to maintain a glowing appearance and calm energy, something fans have long admired.

Is waking up early actually healthy?

We spoke to Dr. Chaitanya Kulkarni, Consultant, Internal Medicine at Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani Hospital, Navi Mumbai, to find out.

“Waking up early can be good for both your physical and mental health,” says Dr. Kulkarni. “It helps your body stay in tune with its natural circadian rhythm. This improves focus, lifts mood, and can even lower the risk of certain health issues,” he further said.

According to him, the early morning hours are peaceful and perfect for self-care activities like exercise, meditation, or planning the day. These habits are known to reduce stress and help with productivity.

What’s the best time to wake up?

“There’s no fixed ideal time,” Dr. Kulkarni explains. “But most people feel good when they wake up between 5:00 am and 7:00 am. The key is to keep your routine consistent.” He also points out that everyone’s body clock is different. Some people are early birds, while others are night owls.

Sleep comes first

Dr. Kulkarni warns that waking up early won’t help if you’re not getting enough sleep. “Adults need 7 to 9 hours of good quality sleep. Without that, you may face issues like tiredness, weight gain, or low immunity,” he further said.

So while Aishwarya’s early routine may inspire many, the real secret to her glow is likely a balanced life, with good sleep, discipline, and self-care.
