Chhath Puja 2025 calendar: Exact date and puja timings for all days – Nahay Khay, Kharna, Sandhya and Usha Arghya

Chhath Puja, one of the biggest festivals of Bihar and eastern UP, will be celebrated from October 25-28. Here are puja timings for all the four days.

Chhath Puja 2025 date and puja timings: After Diwali, Chhath Puja is the next big festival, celebrated with much joy and enthusiasm primarily in the states of Bihar, Jharkhand, and eastern Uttar Pradesh. Dedicated to Lord Surya and Chhathi Maiyya, the four-day festival is the time for fasting and praying for the well-being for family.

While the last two days of the festival are the most significant, where evening and morning Arghya is offered to the Sun, the festivities begin with Nahay Khay, the day when those keeping fasts take a holy dip and eat a sattvic meal of lauki, chana dal, and rice. As the Chhath Puja nears conclusion, people partake in cultural activities like singing songs, dancing, and participating in games. At the heart of the centuries-old festival is to express gratitude to the divine for bestowing them with essential things in life like sunlight, food, and water.

The third day of Chhath Puja, when evening Arghya is offered to Lord Sun is the main day of the festival and it falls on the sixth day of Diwali. This year, evening Arghya will be offered on Monday, October 27, 2025, and the final morning Arghya will be given on Tuesday, October 28, 2025.

Saturday, October 25, 2025: Nahay Khay

Water, symbolising purity and hygiene, is an important part of the Chhath Puja celebration. On the first day of the Chhath Puja, falling on the Chaturthi Tithi of the Shukla Paksha (waxing moon) of the month of Kartik, devotees keeping the fast take a holy dip and bring back water to be used for prasad preparation. A prasad of Chana daal, Kaddu (lauki), and rice is prepared on the day.

Sunday, October 26, 2025: Kharna

The second day of Chhath Puja is called Kharna or Lohanda. On this day, devotees keep a day-long fast and conclude it with a prasad of Rasiya (kheer prepared with jaggery) and chapati. Salt is not consumed on this day and only one meal is eaten, after which the 36-hour Chhath Puja fast begins.

Monday, October 27, 2025: Sandhya Arghya

On the third day of the Chhath Puja celebrations, devotees observe fast without food and water. Preparations for the evening Arghya begin as various prasad items like thekua, coconut, daab nimbu, bananas, apples, and other sweet and savoury items are loaded in in bamboo baskets called soop or daura. Before the sunset time, people get ready to offer Sandhya Arghya in a water body. At sunset time, devotees keeping the fast offer Sandhya Arghya to the setting sun, holding a soop full of prasad, standing knee-deep in water.

Puja timings: Sunset timings on October 27 would be 5:40 PM and that’s when Sandhya Arghya will be offered, according to Drikpanchang.

Tuesday, October 28, 2025: Usha Arghya

On the last day of the Chhath Puja, devotees head to the water bodies again before sunrise to offer Usha Arghya to the rising sun. The rituals are similar to Sandhya Arghya. After the puja is concluded, devotees conclude their fast and prasad is distributed among all.

Puja timings: Sunrise timings on October 28 would be at 6:30 AM. Usha Arghya will be offered at this time.
