Tennis sensation Serena Williams has opened up about her mind-blowing 31-pound weight loss journey with GLP-1 medications in her latest interview with People.
“I lost over 31 pounds using my GLP-1, and I was really excited about that weight loss,” Williams told the publication.
Despite the lure of a complete transformation, many hesitate in experimenting with GLP-1 meditations due to unpleasant side effects like vomiting, headache, stomach ache, among others. However, Williams has a positive experiment to share. The weight loss drug not only helped her slim down but also relieved her joint pain and improved her energy levels.
What happened with Williams started taking weight loss medication
“I just can do more. I’m more active. My joints don’t hurt as much. I just feel like something as simple as just getting down is a lot easier for me. And I do it a lot faster,” she said. “I feel like I have a lot of energy and it’s great. I just feel pretty good about it.”
Why she chose GLP-1 drugs for her transformation
The mother to two beautiful daughters – Olympia and Adira, has often talked about her struggles with postpartum weight gain. After the birth of her second daughter, she was able to shed a lot of weight, but after a while she hit a plateau.
“I just thought, gosh, I don’t know if I would ever be able to get back to where I needed to get to,” the tennis star told People.
The tennis ace decided to try Ro, a direct-to-patient healthcare company, for additional support with a GLP-1 treatment.
While she was initially wary about using weight loss drugs, after thorough research and careful consideration, she went ahead and started the weekly injections around six months after Adira was born.
“GLP-1 helped me enhance everything that I was already doing — eating healthy and working out, whether it was as a professional athlete at the top level of tennis or just going to the gym every day,” she stresses. “So I think that it’s important for everyone to hear my story. And I feel like there’s a lot of people that can relate,” Williams said.
Williams added that it is important to love yourself
“Weight loss should never really change your self image,” she says. “Women often experience judgment about their bodies at any size, and I’m no stranger to that. So I feel like you should love yourself at any size and any look,” she told the publication.
