Mission Impossible headliner Tom Cruise reportedly denied an interaction with US President Donald Trump. A Page Six report claimed that the Hollywood actor was set to seek permission to shoot in outer space, in collaboration with NASA. However, a source told the publication that Tom Cruise didn’t want to owe Trump a favour.
Calling him the ‘President of movies’, netizens hailed Cruise’s decision but were saddened by the fact that the film’s release had been recalled. The alleged reluctance to approach the federal government from Cruise also comes after he denied receiving an award at the Kennedy Centre, also hosted by Trump earlier this year. However, The Washington Post cited ‘scheduling issues’ earlier.
This came after a Trump-appointed NASA official had expressed his support for Tom Cruise on social media. Taking to X (formerly Twitter), they indicated that a film could even be shot at the International Space Station. However, this promise is long gone and was all ‘in the air’.
NASA Administrator Jim Bridenstine’s post read, “NASA is excited to work with @TomCruise on a film aboard the @Space_Station! We need popular media to inspire a new generation of engineers and scientists to make @NASA’s ambitious plans a reality.” – Page Six shared the deleted post in their report. The film was supposed to be based on outer space and required administrative collaboration from Elon Musk’s SpaceX, a close ally of President Trump, and NASA.
‘He found a mission truly impossible’
Netizens went into a frenzy over the news. Reacting to the viral report, a user wrote on X, “I guess he found a mission that truly was impossible.” “Do you all see how all that passion for filmmaking goes out the window when Donald Trump is involved?” read a second comment. “He made the right decision,” wrote a user, condoning his decision.
Calling him the ‘President of movies’, others called him a king, Chad, and beast – cheering Cruise on for his alleged call. “The mission he chose not to accept,” opined another user on X humourously. “Saving Cinema and Sanity,” claimed the Internet on his act.
Cruise’s alleged decision also joins the list of several Hollywood actors who have openly called out President Trump. Late-night talk show hosts Jimmy Fallon and Jimmy Kimmel, along with actors like Tom Hanks, have voiced out their opinions about the US President.
