Thamma Box Office Collection Day 8: Ayushmann Khurrana and Rashmika Mandanna’s horror-comedy Thamma has officially entered the Rs 100 crore club. After a solid weekend, the Maddock Films release is holding strong even on weekdays which shows how strong word of mouth can do wonders for the film. On Day 8, the film earned Rs 5.50 crore in India, according to box office tracker Sacnilk.

Its total domestic net now stands at Rs 101.10 crore. Trade analysts say the film got an extra push in parts of India due to the Chhath holiday, and it has maintained its hold overseas too. With this, Thamma becomes the fourth film from the Maddock Horror Comedy Universe (MCHU) to cross Rs 100 crore.

Thamma Worldwide Box Office Collection Day 8

The film did not see a boost overseas during Diwali weekend, since Diwali is not a holiday in most countries, but it has picked up pace now. Thamma has earned over Rs 16.5 crore in overseas markets so far and is still adding around Rs 2 crore a day on weekdays. With this, the film’s worldwide collection stands at around Rs 140 crore after eight days.

Thamma surpasses Munjya’s Box Office Collection

Thamma has now beaten Munjya which collected Rs 130 crore worldwide in 2023 and is currently the third-highest grosser in the Maddock horror-comedy franchise, behind only Stree and Stree 2. While Stree 2’s record-breaking Rs 857 crore worldwide haul is out of reach, trade experts say Thamma could still cross the first Stree film, which had made Rs 182 crore.

Thamma: Cast, and more

Directed by Aditya Sarpotdar, Thamma stars Ayushmann Khurrana as Alok Goyal and Rashmika Mandanna as Tadaka. This is the first time the two actors have been paired together on screen. The cast also includes Nawazuddin Siddiqui, Paresh Rawal, Geeta Agarwal Sharma and Faisal Malik, with a cameo by Varun Dhawan that ties the film back to Bhediya and Stree 2. The film has been praised for its humour, performances and easy connection with the MCHU fan base.

What made Ayushmann Khurrana sign Thamma?

Ayushmann Khurrana told ANI that he took up Thamma to break away from his familiar ‘boy-next-door’ roles. “In this film, the generic character I have played transitions towards becoming a vampire or having superhero-like characteristics. I have done that for the first time,” he said. “I was very excited because I am a big fan of this universe,” he further told ANI.

What next for the franchise?

With Thamma performing well and maintaining momentum, the MCHU pipeline looks set. Upcoming films in the same universe include Bhediya 2 and Shakti Shalini, starring Saiyaara actor Aneet Padda. For now, all eyes are on whether Thamma can maintain its run into week two and how far it climbs before its theatrical journey ends. Trade analysts expect the film to stay steady at the box office in the coming days.
