The wait is finally over! Netflix’s global phenomenon Squid Game returns for its third and final season this Friday, June 27. The Korean dystopian survival thriller, which first captivated audiences in 2021, will now conclude its gripping saga—promising answers to long-standing cliffhangers that have kept fans speculating for months.

Squid Game became an international sensation upon its debut, lauded for its unique concept, high-stakes drama, and sharp commentary on economic inequality. The second season, which premiered in December 2024, continued the story but received mixed reviews—while the performances and themes remained compelling, some critics pointed out issues with pacing and plot structure.

Season 3 is set to resolve major plot threads, including the fate of Gi-hun, played by Emmy-winning actor Lee Jung-jae, who made a dramatic decision at the end of Season 2. The mysterious Front Man, played by Lee Byung-hun, is also set to return. Viewers can also expect closure on the arc of police officer Jun-ho, whose investigation into the deadly games was cut short in Season 1.

New cast members and returning faces

New cast members joining this season include Wi Ha-joon, Park Sung-hoon, Kang Ha-neul, Kang Ae-shim, Park Gyu-young, Yang Dong-geun, Jo Yu-ri, and Roh Jae-won. Notably, singer and actor Yim Si-wan reprises his role as Myung Gi (Player 333). In an interview with HT City, Yim revealed he accepted the role without reading the script, saying, “I think it’s fair to say that he (Myung Gi) may not be purely evil, but rather, a foolish person.”

The series continues under the direction of Hwang Dong-hyuk, who created, wrote, and directed all three seasons. Hwang made history by becoming the first Asian to win Outstanding Directing for a Drama Series at the 74th Primetime Emmy Awards.

Squid Game Season 3 begins streaming on Netflix on June 27 at 3 AM ET (12 AM PT) in the U.S., with global availability rolling out based on local time zones.

As the games reach their final chapter, fans around the world will be watching closely to see how this brutal and twisted saga ends.
