A labour contractor played a key role in helping Mumbai police track down the attacker who stabbed actor Saif Ali Khan, a PTI report quotes an official saying on Sunday (January 19). Shariful Islam Shehzad Mohammad Rohilla Amin Fakir (30), a Bangladeshi national, was arrested for the attack that occurred at Khan’s residence in Bandra early Thursday morning.

The police had formed multiple teams, including members from the crime branch and local authorities, to locate the suspect, who had been on the run for over two days.

During their investigation, authorities discovered that the attacker had been seen near Dadar railway station three times and had also visited Worli Koliwada. After reviewing hundreds of CCTV videos, they learned that the suspect had been in contact with a local labour contractor.

The labour contractor provided the police with critical details about the attacker, which led authorities to trace him to a labour camp in a remote Thane forest area, where he was arrested.

It was revealed that the accused had previously worked at a Thane-based hotel, but no prior criminal record was found.

The shocking incident took place around 2:30 am inside Saif Ali Khan’s 12th-floor apartment in the upscale ‘Satguru Sharan’ building. The actor, 54, was repeatedly stabbed by the intruder. He was rushed to Lilavati Hospital, where he underwent emergency surgery. Doctors stated that he is recovering and could be discharged soon.
