Bollywood actor Saif Ali Khan was attacked in an attempted burglary at his Bandra home on January 16. The intruder broke into the house through his youngest son Jeh’s room, assaulting their house help before turning on Saif. The actor suffered multiple stab wounds and underwent surgeries at Lilavati Hospital.
Saif’s Immediate Reaction and Hospitalisation
In an interview with Times of India, Saif recalled initially being unaware of the severity of his injuries. “I felt some pain and told Kareena, ‘Something’s wrong with my back.’ She was making frantic calls, but nobody was up. I reassured her, ‘I’m fine. I’m not going to die.’ Even Taimur asked, ‘Are you going to die?’ I told him, ‘No,’” he recounted.
Doctors at Lilavati Hospital later clarified that Saif was brought in by his son Taimur, despite earlier reports suggesting it was Ibrahim. Saif mentioned how Taimur remained composed and insisted on accompanying him. “I felt comfort just looking at him. I didn’t want to go alone,” he said.
Family’s Response to the Attack
The shocking incident deeply affected the family. Saif recalled that Taimur initially believed the attacker should be forgiven, assuming he was just ‘hungry.’ However, Saif admitted his perspective changed upon realising the intruder’s intent. “I sympathised at first, but when I thought about the knife nearly hitting my spine, I stopped feeling bad for him,” he explained.
Saif also revealed how his children reacted. Jeh gave him a plastic sword for protection, saying, “Keep this by your bed for next time.” Taimur grew more concerned about security, while Sara and Ibrahim were visibly emotional. “It’s been a shock, but the family has come together,” he shared.
After six days of hospitalisation, Saif was discharged on January 21. He made his first public appearance at a Netflix event last week. He is now set to appear in Siddharth Anand’s OTT debut, Jewel Thief, alongside Jaideep Ahlawat.
Reflecting on the attack, Saif admitted he never expected such an incident to occur. “I blame myself for not securing the house properly. This could have gone anywhere. It’s the best possible outcome—apart from not getting stabbed at all,” he concluded with a wry laugh.
