The Railway Protection Force (RPF) successfully detained a suspect involved in the knife attack on actor Saif Ali Khan, at Durg railway station in Chhattisgarh on Saturday afternoon. The suspect, identified as Aakash Kailash Kannojia (31), was traveling aboard the Jnaneshwari Express, which operates between Mumbai Lokmanya Tilak Terminus (LTT) and Kolkata Shalimar.
RPF Acted on Information from Mumbai Police
Around 12:30 PM, the RPF Post Durg received crucial information from Mumbai Police about the suspect’s whereabouts. The police had tracked the location of his mobile phone and shared his photo. Upon receiving the alert, the RPF team at Rajnandgaon station, located before Durg on the Mumbai-Howrah route, was notified, but the suspect could not be found when the train stopped there.
Teams Deployed at Durg Station to Locate Suspect
As a precaution, two RPF teams were stationed at Durg station in anticipation of the train’s arrival. Upon the train’s arrival, the suspect was found in the front general compartment. His photograph was immediately sent to Mumbai Police for verification, which confirmed his identity.
Mumbai Police to Take Custody of Suspect
Kannojia is suspected to be the individual captured in CCTV footage, which shows a man descending a staircase at Khan’s residence. Saif Ali Khan, 54, was repeatedly stabbed by an intruder during a robbery attempt at his residence in Bandra, Mumbai, on Thursday morning. Doctors have stated that the actor is currently recovering from his injuries.
A team from the Mumbai Police is expected to arrive in Raipur later today to take custody of the detained suspect.
