Fans of Zubeen Garg, Assamese people and the diaspora were given a last chance to bid farewell to one of Assam’s most iconic singers with the release of his final movie ‘Roi Roi Binale’ which hit the theatres on Friday, October 31 2025. The movie did record numbers with pre-bookings unlike any Assamese movie released previously with all shows being booked out or close to during the first week of its theatrical run. 85 theatres across Assam are screening the movie and as a sign of respect are only screening ‘Roi Roi Binale’ with other releases taking a back seat.

In a first, it was also released in cities where one wouldn’t usually spot an Assamese release such as Jaipur, Lucknow, Cuttack, Bhopal, Goa and many others. This was in accordance with his wishes as his wife and co-producer Garima Saikia and Director Rajesh Bhuyan ensured that not only was the movie released on October 31 as he wanted, but was also released in multiple locations across India; one of Garg’s life-long dreams was to uplift Assamese cinema and take it to the mainstream.

How has Roi Roi Binale performed at the Box Office?

Considering that ‘Roi Roi Binale’ is a regional movie, and an Assamese one at that, the footfall is bound to be marginally lower than your typical Bollywood feature. However, it has still managed to do pretty impressive numbers within the first three days of release. As per industry tracker Sacnilk, ‘Roi Roi Binale’ opened with Rs 1.85 crores on opening day with most collections coming in from Assam. The second day saw an uptick in earnings with an 8.11% rise and collections of Rs 2 crores and Day 3 saw a further rise with earnings of Rs 2.85 crores approximately.

The film had a nationwide gross collection of Rs 7.05 crores and a net collection of Rs 6.13 crores. This is the first for any Assamese film release ever and certainly the quickest to do these numbers. It has already made half of the total collection of the last hit Assamese movie ‘Bhai Mon Da’ within the first three days of it’s run and that in itself is incredibly remarkable.

Theatre occupancy was also on unprecedented levels as cinemas across Guwahati saw massive footfall. While this was obvious due to the record-breaking advanced bookings, turnout on an average was 96% as per Sacnilk with 99% occupancy for evening and night shows. The huge outpouring of grief and shock across Assam and the Assamese diaspora has certainly contributed to these numbers as fans are taking this chance to see the late singer one last time on the silver screen.

About the film

‘Roi Roi Binale’ is a 2025 Assamese language film starring the late singer Zubeen Garg in his final role, Mousumi Alifa, Joy Kashyap, Victor Banerjee, Achurjya Borpatra and Yasashree Bhuyan. It was co-produced by Garg and his wife Garima Saikia and directed by Rajesh Bhuyan. Zubeen Garg plays a blind musician named Raul (Rahul) who is fascinated by the sea and who manages to become a successful star based on his talent alone. There are various social themes in the movie that have been commented upon such as feminism, discrimination against the disabled, counter-terrorism action in the state and political manipulation. Amid all of it, blooms a very beautiful and poignant love that manages to arrest the audience.

In his last recorded interview to Rita Chowdhury, Garg was jubilant about the movie and said, “You should watch my next film Roi Roi Binale. It starts with the sea, and ends with the sea. He (the character he plays) wants to touch the sea. He keeps asking how big is the sea. He touches the sea at the end.” The name of the movie was taken from his 1992 song of the same name which translates to ‘Tear will flow uncontrollably’ and he had deemed it one of his “darkest songs”.

On IMDb, with a rating of 9.4/10, the plot of the movie has been summarized as, “A musical set in post-conflict Assam follows artists grappling with love, identity, and their role in society, while confronting the region’s painful past and debating art’s true purpose.”
