British actress Sophie Turner has recently shared insights into her life after marrying American singer Joe Jonas, revealing the challenges and isolation she faced. The couple settled in Los Angeles, where the ‘Game of Thrones’ star struggled with the city’s vastness. Turner found it frustrating that everything required long drives, often at least forty minutes, making social interactions feel forced and isolating. “You can’t just bump into someone at a bar there; you have to drive 40 minutes with the intention of seeing someone,” she explained in a Vogue interview.

Joining the Jonas family brought additional pressures. Turner, 29, felt uncomfortable with the intense public attention. “There was a lot of focus on the three brothers and their wives. We were always referred to as ‘the wives,’ and I hated that. It felt like being a plus-one. Joe never made me feel that way, but the public perception was that we were just the groupies in the band,” she shared.

The couple’s move to Miami in 2021 only intensified Turner’s feelings of isolation. Adjusting to the new environment was challenging. “We lived in a community full of 50-year-old men, which made making friends difficult. I felt like a little bird trapped in a gilded cage. It was beautiful, but I didn’t have any friends,” she noted.

Turner also expressed her growing unease with America’s gun violence, particularly after the tragic Uvalde shootings in 2022. As a mother, she found it heartbreaking. “I couldn’t imagine being a mother of one of those children, knowing this was something your country could fix, but they prioritized gun rights over children’s right to life. At the same time, women’s rights were being stripped away. It all contributed to this feeling of needing to leave,” she said.

Joe Jonas and Sophie Turner announced their split in September 2023 after four years of marriage. They had married in 2019 following nearly three years of dating. In a joint statement, they shared, “After four wonderful years of marriage, we have mutually decided to amicably end our marriage. There are many speculative narratives as to why, but this is a united decision, and we sincerely hope that everyone can respect our wishes for privacy for us and our children.”

Despite their amicable separation, Turner faced criticism, with some labeling her a “bad mum” due to her extroverted nature compared to Jonas. Reflecting on this difficult period, she said, “Those were the worst few days of my life. I was on set, contracted to be there for another two weeks, unable to be with my kids in the States. The hurtful articles kept coming out. It was painful because I constantly worry about every decision I make as a mother. Mum guilt is so real. I had to remind myself, ‘None of this is true. You are a good mum and you’ve never been a partier.
