Netflix’s latest crime drama Adolescence has been making waves across the world. In India too, the show has been received with raving reviews. A show that has sparked conversations not just among the regular audience but also among the celebrities and film fraternity of India. The latest to join the bandwagon is filmmaker Karan Johar, who recently praised the show and called it a “blasterclass for parents.”
The filmmaker took to his Instagram and posted a long note about how the show impacted him. Sharing a poster of the show, Karan Johar wrote, “To be a Parent… I have always known that raising a child is as much a blessing as it is an arduous responsibility No book or podcast can prepare you or teach you to be the best version of yourself as a parent…what you need to first be is the best version of YOURSELF .. the very best.”
“Adolescence is a wake up loud call to parents who are raising children in times of social media… I grew up on conversations they speak in emojis… I grew up on books they scroll reels .. I grew up on self discovery they are surrounded by comparisons… the pandemic is NOW! We just don’t see it. This gut wrenching show is more a mirror to parenting and social media commentary than anything I have a seen or been impacted by recently,” he wrote.
Further thanking the creators of Adolescence, he wrote, “I am raising twins and I thank this show for building my awareness and my responsibility quotient even more… This is more than a series it’s a forever lessonI am grateful to the creators of #adolescence and to Netflix!”

But Karan Johar is not the only one to have praised the show on social media. Several other eminent personalities from India have also taken to social media to express their appreciation for a show this well-made.
Alia Bhatt posted a note on her Instagram Stories that read, “This show is truly perfection. From the writing to the staging to the exceptional cinematography.” Given each episode of the show was filmed in a single continuous take, Alia Bhatt said she wonders, “What it felt like when after an hour of calling action — to finally calling cut… how did the entire cast and crew feel?”
She added, “The performance by each and every person that has walked into frame and our was alive… real raw and so so hot in the moment that the energy is very palpable and so moving. The magic of storytelling and an entire crew coming together to deliver, every department giving nothing but their heart and soul to every second on screen. I am in awe!”
Filmmaker Hansal Mehta too reviewed the limited series, especially the last two episodes which hit him the hardest. Check out his post here:
Filmmaker Anurag Kashyap is also on the list. After watching the show, he felt “numb and envious and jealous that someone can go and make that.”
