Haq box office collection day 1: Based on the landmark judgement, Haq immortalises the famous Shah Bano case. Portrayed by Yami Gautam Dhar, the Article 370 actress plays the role of Shazia Bano, with Emraan Hashmi playing Abbas, the opposing counsel. However, the much-anticipated courtroom drama did not have a good start to its theatrical run.
Released on November 7, the Friday release was inspired by the legal struggle of Shah Bano Begum, which scripted Supreme Court history. Centred on the gendered experience of marriage, it explores the religion-based differences in society. It was the first time in history that Muslim women were granted the right to maintenance after a divorce. Here’s a look at Haq’s opening day box office collection.
Haq collection day 1: Box office update
According to industry tracker Sacnilk, Haq has grossed Rs 1.65 crore on its opening day. With a few thousand tickets sold in advance, the pre-booking numbers looked glum. Haq did not seem to impress fans as it an overall occupancy rate of 9.97%, with night shows being the maximum people-gainer, relatively.
With over 1800 shows scheduled throughout India, the Yami Gautam-Emraan Hashmi legal drama did not impress fans in metro cities. While Mumbai occupied nearly 13% seats across 300 shows, Delhi NCR was even lower with 8.25% across 497 screenings. Haq had over 100 shows in Pune, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, and Ahmedabad, but the occupancy hovered between 7% and 17%.
The Suparn S Varma directorial has been produced by Junglee Pictures and stars Emraan Hashmi, Yami Gautam, Vartika Singh, Sheeba Chaddha, and Danish Husain in key roles.
Biggest films of the Haq stars
URI: The Surgical Strike has been Yami Gautam’s biggest film. Starring alongside Vicky Kaushal, the film grossed Rs 244 crore. It is followed by Pankaj Tripathi’s OMG 2, where she was the opposing counsel in the courtroom again, grossing Rs 151 crore. It is followed by Bala (Rs 116 crore), Kaabil (Rs 104 crore), and Article 370 (Rs 78 crore).
Similarly, Emraan Hashmi’s highest-grossing film has been Tiger 3. The Salman Khan headliner made Rs 276 crore.
