Kangana’s starrer Emergency has experienced fluctuations in its box office performance, with a decent weekend opening followed by a decline during the weekdays. On Day 8, early estimates suggest earnings of Rs 0.35 crore. As of now, the film’s total India net collection for the first week stands at Rs 14.65 crore.

Emergency has also surpassed the net India collection of Ajay Devgn’s Azaad, with earnings of Rs 14.65 crore compared to Azaad’s Rs 6.77 crore. Azaad, which was released around the same time, has also seen a drop in its earnings.

According to industry tracker Sacnilk, Emergency had a modest start on Day 1 (1st Friday), earning Rs 2.5 crore, followed by a strong 44% growth on Day 2 (1st Saturday), reaching Rs 3.6 crore. On Day 3 (1st Sunday), the growth slowed to an 18.06% increase, totaling Rs 4.25 crore. 

However, the box office momentum took a sharp decline on Day 4 (1st Monday), with a 75.29% drop to Rs 1.05 crore. The downward trend continued on Day 5 (1st Tuesday), which saw a further 4.76% decline to Rs 1 crore, followed by Day 6 (1st Wednesday) with Rs 0.87 crore, a 13% drop. On Day 7 (Thursday), the box office collection dropped to Rs 0.9 crore, a 10% decrease from the previous day.

As the title suggests, Emergency is a biographical political drama that explores pivotal events between 1975 and 1977 in post-Independence India. The film primarily focuses on the Emergency declared by former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi but is not a biopic of her. Instead, it sheds light on the major political decisions that marked her tenure as Prime Minister.

Meet the star cast: Anupam Kher plays Jayaprakash Narayan, the prominent political leader and activist who opposed the Emergency. Shreyas Talpade portrays Atal Bihari Vajpayee, co-founder of the BJP and a senior leader. Mahima Chaudhry stars as Pupul Jayakar, Indira Gandhi’s trusted confidante and biographer. Milind Soman portrays Field Marshal Sam Manekshaw, India’s first Field Marshal. Vishak Nair plays Sanjay Gandhi, Indira Gandhi’s younger son.

The late Satish Kaushik plays Jagjivan Ram, a senior Indian politician and former Deputy Prime Minister. Scott Alexander Young appears as Richard Nixon, the 37th President of the United States. Ashok Chhabra portrays Morarji Desai, the political leader who succeeded Indira Gandhi as Prime Minister. Adhir Bhat plays Feroze Gandhi, Indira Gandhi’s husband, while Kateryna Grabovska portrays Sonia Gandhi, Indira’s daughter-in-law.
