Deepika Padukone’s Kalki exit: Embroiled in another feud in the South, Deepika Padukone has officially been cut out from the sequel to Kalki 2898 AD. A Vyjayanthi Movies production, the film features a star-studded cast including Amitabh Bachchan, Prabhas, and Kamal Hassan, and grossed over Rs 1000 crore at the global box office. The news of the actress’s departure comes following rumours of differences between her and Sandeep Reddy Vanga.

Announced in a post on X (formerly Twitter), the post from Vyjayanthi Movies claimed that the film ” deserves that commitment and much more.” It read, “This is to officially announce that @deepikapadukone will not be a part of the upcoming sequel of #Kalki2898AD. After careful consideration, we have decided to part ways. Despite the long journey of making the first film, we were unable to find a partnership. And a film like @Kalki2898AD deserves that commitment and much more. We wish her the best with her future works.”

Padukone’s exit from Kalki

This comes after her public exit from Sandeep Reddy Vanga’s ‘Spirit’, where the Bollywood actress reportedly demanded a Rs 25 crore fee for 35 days of shoot. She was soon to be replaced by Tripti Dimri, who shot to fame after her appearance in Vanga’s ‘Animal’. Padukone also allegedly asked for a 10% profit share, listed extensive entourage expenses, and even expressed unwillingness to deliver dialogues in Telugu.

Parts of Kalki 2898 were shot during Padukone’s pregnancy, and her husband, Ranveer Singh, joked that it marked Dua’s on-screen debut. With a massive budget of Rs 700 crore, Kalki 2898 AD was among the most expensive films in Indian history and received mixed bag reviews from audiences.

Padukone has not been seen in a single solo hit in a long time. However, she was last seen starring against action-hero Hrithik Roshan in ‘Fighter’ and created quite a row with her appearance in Shah Rukh Khan‘s ‘Pathaan’ and ‘Jawan’. She is set to reunite with the Bollywood icon on the sets of ‘King’, a Sidharth Anand directorial set to come to the big screen in 2026.

Earlier this month, Deepika Padukone stunned the fashion world by becoming the first Indian juror at the LVMH Prize 2025 in Paris. She presented the award to designer Soshi Otsuki at the Foundation Louis Vuitton. She stood alongside names like Pharrell Williams, Marc Jacobs, Stella McCartney, and others.
