Akshay Kumar’s ‘Baby’ box office collections continue to rise, but very gradually, as audiences maintain a steady trickle into theatres – this has been going on for nearly four weeks despite a slew of releases. Though ‘Baby’ box office collections have been falling steadily in the last few days, the movie has fared better than other releases this year with a business of Rs 93 crore so far in the domestic market.

Overall, ‘Baby’ box office collections have crossed Rs 100 crore mark if the figures from overseas market are taken under consideration. But the movie is unlikely to reach the coveted mark in the domestic circuit wit the release of Varun Dhawan starrer ‘Badlapur’ this Friday. Though, the Akshay Kumar-starrer had been tipped to become the first to enter the Rs 100 crore club, its collections is now expected to settle around Rs 95 crore.

‘Baby’ made the most of its competitors faring poorly and added a reasonable Rs 6.5 crore in its third week across India. At the multiplexes across India, Gautam Dutta, CEO, PVR Ltd, said: “Baby is still continuing to attract the audience and has maintained an occupancy of around 35 per cent.”

With the Cricket World Cup and the ongoing cash crunch continuing, the scenario at the box-office scenario is definitely bleak for future releases, but exhibitors and trade analysts are still hopeful that ‘Badlapur’ will give them some respite.

One of the most hyperactive actors in Bollywood, arguably more than Salman Khan, Aamir Khan and perhaps even Shah Rukh Khan, Akshay Kumar has thrilled audiences with his endearingly ‘innocent’ and yet in-your-face Punjabi attitude that has brought him great returns in terms of box office collections.
