Infosys has let go of 195 trainees after they failed internal assessments, according to an email by the company. This is the third instance of such dismissals this year.
In February, the company removed 320 trainees for the same reason, and another 240 were let go of earlier this month, taking the total to nearly 800. The trainees impacted were hired in 2022 and some were onboarded in October 2024.
Infosys had hired 15,000 trainees in the 2024-25 financial year.“Further to assessment of the results of your final assessment attempt, please be informed that you have not met the qualifying criteria in the ‘generic foundation training programme’ despite the additional preparation time, doubt-clearing sessions, several mock assessments and three attempts,” the company’s email said.
During the second round of removals, Infosys provided training support through NIIT and upGrad. Around 250 of the affected recruits took part in the training, while about 150 signed up for outplacement services.
Infosys is offering affected trainees one month’s salary, outplacement assistance, and a choice between two training programmes: a 12-week course for potential roles in the business process management (BPM) industry or a 24-week course on IT fundamentals.
The latest action comes as Infosys and the broader IT sector face economic challenges. The company has projected revenue growth between nil and 3% for the 2025-26 financial year. Infosys plans to hire around 20,000 new employees in the same period.
After reviewing documents, the Karnataka labour department on February 27 said Infosys had not broken any labour laws by dismissing the trainees.
