Due to a slight delay, Delhi University is set to begin its academic session for the 2024-25 year today (August 29), based on CUET UG 2024 scores. The new cohort of undergraduate students will start their classes, and several colleges have organized orientation programs to help students adjust to their new environment.
According to the university’s data, nearly 68,000 students have enrolled in the 1,559 programs offered across 69 colleges and departments, reported The Indian Express. To ensure optimal seat allocation, the university plans additional rounds of admissions. In the first round, 65,775 admissions were confirmed, with 43,067 students opting for upgrades and 20,829 choosing to keep their seats. The second round saw 24,869 new allocations and 27,554 students securing their preferred choices through the upgrade process.
For round one of admissions to 71,600 sanctioned seats, the university processed 5,68,20,017 unique cutoffs and ranks. There were 1,72,18,187 preferences submitted by students applying to various undergraduate programs. This year, DU extended offers to 90,644 candidates—nearly 19,000 more than the sanctioned capacity—to ensure all seats are filled.
While the academic session is now underway, the admission process continues, with a third round scheduled to admit students based on performance and supernumerary quotas, such as those for children/widows of armed forces personnel (CW), extra-curricular activities (ECA), and sports. The third seat allocation list will be released shortly.
The session was originally scheduled to start on August 1 but was delayed due to the late release of the Common University Entrance Test (CUET UG) 2024 results. The CUET UG, conducted by the National Testing Agency, faced delays after being implicated in allegations concerning the NEET UG and UGC NET paper leaks.
