The Centre has appointed Shirish Chandra Murmu as the Deputy Governor of the Reserve Bank of India for a period of three years. He is currently serving as the Executive Director at the Reserve Bank of India (RBI), Reuters reported.
RBI appoints new Deputy Governor
His appointment will be effective from October 9. Murmu will replace Rajeshwar Rao, who is currently the deputy governor in charge of banking regulation and other portfolios. His tenure will end on October 8.
RBI has four deputy governors, spanning departments including monetary policy, financial markets regulations, banking supervision and regulations.
Who is Shirish Chandra Murmu?
Shirish Chandra Murmu is the Executive Director of RBI. Murmu oversees key administrative responsibilities, regulatory policies, and senior-level functions within the Reserve Bank of India’s organisational framework, according to the RBI website.
Within the Secretary’s Department, his role generally covers inter-departmental coordination, governance-related issues, regulatory compliance, and internal administrative management.
