Nagrota witnessed a historic political moment as Devyani Rana of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) clinched a decisive victory in the assembly by-election. The seat fell vacant after the passing of her father, Devender Singh Rana, a prominent BJP leader in Jammu & Kashmir. Voters entrusted Devyani to carry forward her father’s vision for the constituency.
Devyani’s Campaign: Development, Progress, and Family Values
An economics graduate from the University of California and a businesswoman managing her family’s enterprises, Devyani focused her campaign on modern, inclusive development. She pledged to continue her father’s initiatives while upgrading local infrastructure, promising a balance of professional governance and community-driven growth.
BJP Strength Solidified Through Massive Victory Margin
After 11 rounds of counting, Devyani secured 42,350 votes, finishing well ahead of her competitors. Her victory margin of 24,647 votes underscored the BJP’s dominance in the region. Harsh Dev Singh of the Jammu & Kashmir National Panthers Party came second with 17,703 votes, while candidates from the National Conference, Aam Aadmi Party, Apni Party, and independents trailed far behind. The NOTA option recorded over 10,000 votes.
Expressing her gratitude, Devyani said, “Nagrota blessed Rana sahib, and today they have blessed me too.” She added, “The BJP contests elections with the intention of winning and that the results in both Nagrota and Bihar reflect the party’s strong position.”
Her victory not only preserves the Rana family legacy but also reinforces the BJP’s foothold in Jammu & Kashmir amid a competitive political landscape.
