On Thursday, even as India and Pakistan were engaged in one of the fiercest battles, United States‘ Vice President gave an interview to Fox News, clearly distancing himself and United States from the South Asian dispute between the two arch rivals, it is “fundamentally none of our business,” he asserted.

So what happened within 24 hours that Donald Trump and Marco Rubio claimed victory by claiming US helped India and Pakistan ceasefire and bring peace? Did US did India agree to a ceasefire after a call from JD Vance?

“After a long night of talks mediated by United States, I am pleased to announce that India and Pakistan have agreed to Full and immediate ceasefire,” Donald Trump posted on Truth Social.

Soon after, India confirmed that in a bilateral decision India and Pakistan have agreed to halt all military actions on ground, air and water.

What led to the DGMO talks between India and Pakistan?

According to New York Times, they acted out of ‘fear that it might quickly go nuclear.’ Times of India claims India’s attack on Nur Khan Chaklala, near a division that handles Pakistan’s Strategic Plans Division spooked Pakistan.

It is not just the central transport hub of Pakistan’s military, but is also just a short distance from the headquarters of Pakistan’s Strategic Plans Division, which oversees and protects the country’s nuclear arsenal.

Second major point of disruption was Pakistan PM calling a meeting of the National Command Authority — the small group that makes decisions about how and when to make use of nuclear weapons

United States acted after gathering enough evidence that the real reason behind Pakistan sending 300 to 400 drones into Indian territory was to probe its air defences, NYT report stated. Later, the most significant cause for concern came when explosions hit the Nur Khan air base in Rawalpindi.

The Times of India report claims Pakistan apparently approached the United States and that’s when Marco Rubio spoke to Jaishankar, and JD Vance, who had just returned from an India trip, spoke to PM Modi. It was communicated to them, that there would be no political intervention and they (Pakistan) should call the DGMO.

According to The Indian Express, he was told, that they must understand the response from India will be very very strong. That’s when Pakistan opened up and attacked 26 locations in India. Soon after India’s response was communicated on ground, ‘…take apart those eight air bases.’

Refuting claims of a US intervention to foster peace, sources to the Indian Express stated, “Why did the DGMO of Pakistan call? Not because somebody spoke in good English. It is the loud noise (from our side) that came when something dropped from the sky.’ He further stated, ‘The fact that they changed the tune. But we wanted to hear from the Pakistanis. The message came from them, from their DGMO. That is the only channel.’

Pakistan DGMO asked for a call at 1pm, but as our DGMO was in a meeting, the call happened at 3.30pm. Indian DGMO went up, to check with the higher authorities, and Pakistan may have gone up too. That’s when the Americans may have picked it up from Pakistan.

A day after IAF declared, ‘we have achieved all the objectives we had selected and all our pilots are back home’, Air Marshal A.K. Bharti told the media and the world. However, he continued, ‘we are still in a combat situation.’
