The wife of Monobrata Jana, TMC leader who was recently arrested, has filed an FIR against NIA officials, alleging misconduct during a raid on her residence. Moni Jana accused the officials of attempting to outrage her modesty after forcibly entering their home in Bhupatinagar under the guise of conducting a probe, her FIR stated, reports PTI, citing a police officer.
The NIA on Saturday arrested two key conspirators, Balai Charan Maity and Manobrata Jana, in connection with a 2022 blast case in Purba Medinipur district, which resulted in three deaths.
Moni Jana reported to the Bhupatinagar police station that the NIA officers also vandalized their property during the raid.
An FIR has been registered based on her complaint, with IPC Section 354 (pertaining to assault on women with intent to outrage her modesty) attached to it, according to police.
The NIA, on the other hand, reported being attacked by a mob when attempting to arrest the main suspects in the blast case. One officer was injured, and a vehicle was damaged during the incident in Bhupatinagar.
However, no arrests have been made in connection with the attack on the NIA officers, who have also filed a complaint with the Bhupatinagar police station.
The matter is currently under investigation.
The assault on the NIA team brings to mind a similar incident on January 5 when an Enforcement Directorate team was attacked during a search at the residence of TMC leader Shajahan Sheikh in North 24 Parganas district’s Sandeshkhali. This incident was related to alleged irregularities in the public distribution system.
