At least three people were killed and several others injured in an explosion while allegedly manufacturing illegal crude bombs in Murshidabad district late Sunday night.

The blast occurred at Khoyertala village under Sagarpara gram panchayat, police said. The deceased were identified as Sakirul Sarkar, 32, Mamon Mollah, 30, and Mustakin Sheikh, 28. Police added that the injured people fled the scene, reports PTI.

“The explosion took place at Mamon’s house, where they were making crude bombs. The roof of the house was blown off in the blast. We are investigating the incident,” a police officer said.

An initial investigation revealed that the three men had been recently involved in phensedyl smuggling.

Locals attempted to take Mollah and Sarkar to Murshidabad Medical College and Hospital, but both died on the way, according to police.

A large police team was deployed to the area, and a bomb squad is investigating the blast site.
