The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a forecast indicating the continuation of dense to very dense fog and cold day to severe cold day conditions over Uttar Pradesh and Bihar for the next two days. However, there is some respite in sight as the situation is expected to gradually improve thereafter.
First heavy snowfall of season in upper hills soon
According to the latest weather forecast by IMD, a fresh Western Disturbance is anticipated to affect the Western Himalayan Region from January 28 onwards. Another Western Disturbance is likely to impact the Western Himalayan region and adjoining plains of Northwest India from January 31.
These weather systems are expected to bring light isolated rainfall/snowfall over Jammu, Kashmir, Ladakh, Gilgit, Baltistan, Muzaffarabad, and Himachal Pradesh during the next two days, followed by moderate scattered to fairly widespread rainfall/snowfall from January 29 to February 1.
“Light/moderate isolated to scattered rainfall/snowfall is very likely over Uttarakhand and light rainfall over Punjab, Chandigarh, Haryana, west Uttar Pradesh from January 31 to February 2,” the Met office said in a statement.
Isolated heavy rainfall/snowfall is also predicted over Jammu, Kashmir, Ladakh, Gilgit, Baltistan, and Muzaffarabad on January 28 and 31. Additionally, light to moderate isolated to scattered rainfall/snowfall is expected over Uttarakhand and light rainfall over Punjab, Chandigarh, Haryana, and West Uttar Pradesh from January 31 to February 2.
Dense fog conditions in UP, Bihar, Punjab and more
The IMD further warns that dense to very dense fog conditions are likely to prevail for a few hours during the night and morning over many parts of East Uttar Pradesh, and over some parts of Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, West Uttar Pradesh, and Bihar on January 28. Dense fog in isolated pockets is expected over the region for the subsequent three days.
Moreover, isolated dense fog conditions are forecasted for a few hours in the morning over Uttarakhand, north Madhya Pradesh, Sub-Himalayan West Bengal, Odisha, Assam, Meghalaya, Mizoram, and Tripura on January 28.
In terms of temperature, cold day to severe cold day conditions are expected to persist in some parts of Bihar on January 28, followed by cold day conditions for the subsequent three days. Similar conditions are anticipated in some parts of East Uttar Pradesh today.
