Parts of the national capital witnessed rainfall during the early hours of Sunday (March 3), with areas such as Mandi House, RK Puram, Indraprastha, Kartavya Path, and Central Delhi receiving fresh showers. Delhi saw a sudden weather change on Saturday morning, with strong winds and light showers reported in several areas including Greater Kailash, India Gate, RK Puram, and Janpath.

According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), a western disturbance with a cyclonic circulation is situated over northern Afghanistan and nearby regions, with a trough extending from this circulation to the Northwest Arabian Sea at lower and middle tropospheric levels. Additionally, there is a significant influx of moisture from the Arabian Sea to northwest India, expected to persist until March 3.

The IMD yesterday reported that the minimum temperature departure was above normal at isolated locations across Haryana, Chandigarh, and Delhi. Moreover, the Met Department stated that there is no significant expected change in minimum temperatures over northwest India in the next three days, but they are anticipated to decrease by 3-5 degrees Celsius thereafter.

Thunderstorm, hailstorm likely over East India

Thunderstorm/hailstorm activity likely over East India on March 3, said IMD. Due to the convergence of winds in the lower troposphere, expect isolated light to moderate rainfall along with thunderstorms and lightning in Vidarbha and Chhattisgarh today, with the possibility extending to Bihar, Jharkhand, Sub-Himalayan West Bengal, and Sikkim from March 3-4. Gangetic West Bengal and Odisha may experience these conditions on March 3-4.

Additionally, isolated hailstorms are likely in Bihar and Jharkhand today. Meghalaya and Arunachal Pradesh are likely to experience isolated to scattered light to moderate rainfall or snowfall over the next five days.

Isolated heavy rainfall or snowfall is probable in Sikkim today and in Arunachal Pradesh on March 4. Furthermore, isolated light to moderate rainfall, accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning, is likely in Assam, Meghalaya, and Nagaland on March 4-5.
