The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has notified in its latest weather bulletin that wet weather conditions are likely to prevail over the Western Himalayan region this week, while rainfall will be experienced in the plains of northwest India on January 5 and 6. Isolated heavy downpours are expected over Jammu-Kashmir during the same duration. The IMD also warned that dense fog and cold conditions will continue in parts of central and northwest India for the next 24 hours. It may improve further.
Rainfall and Snowfall Prediction
Two western disturbances are present in cyclonic circulation at Jammu and nearby areas. Under its influence light, isolated to scattered showers/snow is anticipated over the Western Himalayan region from January 3 to January 4. Intensity is likely to increase from January 5 to January 6 along with isolated rains in Jammu-Kashmir, Gilgit, Muzaffarabad, Baltistan, and Ladakh. Moreover, Northwest Plains is expected to experience light, isolated to scattered downpours from January 4 to January 6. Jammu-Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, Gilgit, Ladakh, Baltistan, and Muzaffarabad are likely to have isolated thunderstorms along with lightning on January 5 and 6.
Dense Fog alerts
The Met Department has announced that dense fog is expected to persist in Madhya Pradesh and Himachal Pradesh on January 3 and northeastern states like Tripura, Assam, Mizoram, Nagaland, Meghalaya, and Manipur are likely to get it from January 3 to January 6.
Ground Frost conditions are predicted for isolated areas of Nagaland, Mizoram, Arunachal Pradesh, Mizoram, and Manipur on January 3.
Delhi/NCR Weather Update
The national capital region has been projected to have a partly cloudy sky on Friday accompanied by smog and mild fog in most areas and dense fog in some isolated places during morning hours. Delhi continued to be under the grip of cold day conditions for the last four days. Maximum temperatures are expected to be at 17 degrees Celsius and minimum is likely to be at 8 degrees Celsius.
Snowfall in Kashmir
The Weather Department has predicted light snow at isolated high-altitude places on Friday as two western disturbances are consequently impacting the region. Many areas in Kashmir along the plains received fresh snowfall on Thursday. Famous tourist destinations like Zojila Pass, Gulmarg, Pahalgam, and Sonamarg also get fresh snowfall.
