Foggy mornings and cold day conditions are likely to continue over parts of North India during the next 3 days, the latest weather bulletin of the India Meteorological Department  (IMD) mentioned.

Parts of Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, and Uttar Pradesh will see chilly weather on January 16 and 17. Further, cold weather will prevail at isolated pockets of Bihar, West Bengal, and Sikkim during the next few days. 

Meanwhile, Delhi’s Safdarjung recorded a minimum temperature of 4.8°C at 5:30 am today.

While cold wave conditions are set to persist in Delhi for the next two days, dense fog is likely till January 19, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecast.

Earlier on Tuesday, IMD issued an ‘orange’ alert for Delhi on Tuesday and Wednesday, with officials saying it was on account of the combined effect of low temperatures and dense fog, with the possibility of air and rail transport disruptions.

On Monday, the national capital recorded the lowest minimum temperature for the winter so far — 3.3 degrees Celsius.

Fog conditions to prevail

Dense to very dense fog conditions are very likely to prevail for a few hours in the night/morning over many parts of Punjab and Haryana, Chandigarh, UP, Bihar & Delhi till January 17.

Further, states like Jharkhand, Uttarakhand, north Rajasthan, north Madhya Pradesh, SubHimalayan West Bengal, Sikkim, Assam & Meghalaya, and Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram & Tripura will also see foggy weather conditions. 

Minimum temperature to gradually increase 

A gradual rise by 2-3°C in minimum temperatures is very likely over Northwest India during the next 4- 5 days. Going forward, no significant change in minimum temperatures is likely over East India during the next 24 hours. Ground frost conditions are very likely over Northwest India on January 16. 

Rainfall and snowfall update 

A fresh feeble Western Disturbance is likely to affect the Western Himalayan Region from January 16. It is likely to cause light rainfall/snowfall at isolated places over Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh, and Himachal Pradesh on January 16 and 17 and Uttarakhand on the 17 and 18 January.

Further, light to moderate rainfall is predicted at isolated places very likely over Bihar, Jharkhand, Chhattisgarh, Odisha, West Bengal & Sikkim, and Northeast India between January 16-18.
