Oree Gowkaran who is an MP of Indian origin from Mauritius came up with a pleasant surprise during the parliamentary conference of first Persons of Indian Origin (PIO) in Delhi. The MP sang a melodious Bhojpuri folk song during the conversation with ANI. “Balma sutela sukh nindiya, jagalo nahi jaage, oh raam.” these were the part of lyrics of the beautiful song which Gowkaran sang. The song was written from the perspective of a pregnant woman. He also sang another folk song on Hindu Goddess Kaali. Oree Gowkaran also praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi for the progress in India. He told to ANI, “I think India has developed a lot. Every time I used to come to India, they said India would never develop. India is a dirty place; no one can improve it. But he has done it. I am very proud of him.” The Indian-origin MP from Mauritius was so impressed with Narendra Modi that he said that he would be as popular as Mahatma Gandhi in the days to come.

The prime minister inaugurated the first PIO Parliamentary Conference at the Pravasi Bharatiya Kendra in Delhi. As many as 124 Members of the Parliament and 17 mayors from 23 countries will participate in this conference. According to PTI report, Union Minister Ananth Kumar on Tuesday invited Persons of Indian Origin (PIOs) to partner in the development of their motherland and said the Center’s programmes and schemes provide a great opportunity for them to forge this partnership. The minister also appreciated that languages like Hindi, Bhojpuri and folklores such as Ramayana, literature from India, traditional cuisine etc. have not only survived but are flourishing in the countries which host PIOs.
