The Lok Sabha witnessed a moment of light-hearted banter on Wednesday as Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav took a dig at the BJP over its yet-to-be-announced national president. While debating the Waqf Bill, Yadav veered off-topic to comment on the ruling party’s leadership selection process, prompting a witty response from Union Home Minister Amit Shah.

“A party that claims to be the biggest political party in the world has still not been able to elect its own national president,” Akhilesh Yadav remarked with a smirk, drawing laughter from opposition benches.

Amit Shah, unable to suppress his own amusement, responded in kind, pointing out that BJP’s leadership process was different from dynastic politics. “Akhilesh ji made his remark with a smile, so I will respond in the same manner. The parties sitting across from us in this House all have national presidents who are selected from just five family members. But in our party, we have to conduct a process involving 12-13 crore members, so naturally, it takes time,” Shah quipped.

The exchange added a moment of levity to the otherwise intense parliamentary discussions, highlighting the ongoing debate over political party structures and internal democracy.
