What did LoP Rahul Gandhi say in Parliament?

Using the ‘chakravyuh’ metaphor as a central theme, Gandhi claimed on Monday that a climate of fear pervades the country, with a group of six individuals trapping the nation in a ‘chakravyuh.’ He promised that the INDIA bloc would break this ‘chakravyuh.’

While participating in the Lok Sabha debate on the Budget 2024-25, Gandhi asserted that the Indian National Developmental Inclusive Alliance (INDIA) would ensure the passage of a legal guarantee for MSP and a caste census by the House.

Gandhi drew a historical parallel, referencing an event in Haryana’s Kurukshetra thousands of years ago, where six people killed the youth Abhimanyu in a ‘chakravyuh.’ He highlighted that a ‘chakravyuh’ symbolizes violence and fear.

Gandhi referred to the Mahabharat legend, where Abhimanyu was killed in a ‘chakravyuh,’ a multi-layered military formation designed to entrap a warrior with opponents strategically positioned in a lotus-shaped labyrinth. He noted that this ‘chakravyuh’ is also called a ‘padmavyuha’ because it resembles a lotus, which is the BJP’s election symbol.
