In a video that has now gone viral, a student was seen hitting a teacher while an online class on the Physics Wallah app, an online teaching platform for students preparing for competitive exams, was underway.

The video showed the teacher standing in front of a blackboard when the student suddenly appears, slipper in hand, and starts hitting him.

It is not yet clear what led to the incident, and there has no official statement from the firm yet.

Founded in 2016, the app is developed by Alakh Pandey, an educator from Uttar Pradesh’s Prayagraj, and Prateek Maheshwari.

This is not the first time that the firm has landed into controversy. Earlier, a teacher employed with the firm was accused of using a “casteist slur” during an online class.

In the clip that had gone viral, the teacher identified as Manish Raj was allegedly heard saying, “Why did I even take up this profession? At times, I regret having to do this (teach). God, it would have been better had you made me a C****r…I would have polished shoes. Then, my life would have been peaceful.”

Later, the teacher had issued an apology saying that it was “not intentional”.

“We deeply regret & apologize for the inappropriate remarks made by one of our teachers which has hurt the sentiments of the Dalit community. The concerned teacher has rendered a formal apology. Promoting inclusivity is one of our core values and will ensure it’s not repeated,” the Noida-based company said in a post.
