A private school in Delhi’s Rohini district received a bomb threat email on Friday, a day after a low-intensity blast occurred nearby in Prashant Vihar. The threat was later deemed a hoax after a thorough search of the school, reports PTI.
Venkateshwar Global School (VGS), located about one kilometre from the site of Thursday’s blast, was alerted to the email at 10:57 AM, according to Delhi Fire Service officials. A team of Fire Service personnel, along with police, a bomb disposal squad, and a dog squad, conducted a search of the school premises but found no suspicious objects.
“The situation is well under control. There’s no need to panic,” the school said in a message to parents, urging them to pick up their children by 11 a.m.
Dr. Namita Singhal, the school’s principal, confirmed that the bomb threat was sent to the school’s official email. “After we received the email, we have dispersed all the students and staff,” she said.
Police have launched an investigation into the incident.
In a separate case, the Delhi Police have registered an FIR in connection with the low-intensity blast that occurred near a cinema hall in Rohini. The explosion, which took place nearly 40 days after another blast at a CRPF school in the same area, injured one person and caused panic among residents.
A case has been registered under several sections of the Indian Penal Code, including section 326(g) (mischief with severe consequences to public safety), section 4 of the Prevention of Damage to Public Property Act, and section 3 of the Explosive Substance Act. Police are investigating the involvement of unidentified people in planting the explosive material.
