Two kanwariyas were killed and ten others were injured when a tractor-trolley overturned in Hapur, Uttar Pradesh on late Thursday.

The victims, residents of Ghaziabad, were travelling to Brajghat in Hapur to collect water from the Ganga. The tractor-trolley, carrying over 20 kanwariyas, lost control on a highway in the Babu Garh area, leading to the crash.

The injured were transported to a local hospital by police vehicles.

Some, with severe injuries, were referred to a medical facility in Meerut for further treatment. Babu Garh police station in-charge Vijay Gupta confirmed that two young men, identified as Saurabh and Chirag, died while receiving treatment.

Their bodies have been sent for post-mortem, and their families have been notified.

Gupta added that an investigation is underway to determine the cause of the accident.

The accident occurred during the Hindu holy month of Shravan, which began on July 22 and includes the Shravan Shivratri celebration on August 2. During this period, devotees conduct the ritual of ‘Jalabhishek’ at Shiva temples every Monday after collecting water from the Ganga.
