Lok Sabha speaker Sumitra Mahajan on Wednesday hosted a farewell dinner for the outgoing Vice President of India, Mohammad Hamid Ansari at the Parliament. He also served as the Chairman of the Rajya Sabha. The list of attendees included Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Finance Minister Arun Jaitley along with all central ministers. Trinamool Congress leader and Rajya Sabha MP Derek O’Brien also attended the dinner; however, he said that he missed non-vegetarian food. O’Brien took to Twitter to share his view on it. He posted a tweet saying, “Here at farewell dinner hosted by LS Speaker for VP Hamid Ansari. All mantris, Oppn leaders present. Veg only! Will go home & have fish curry.”
While the dinner was enjoyed by everyone including the leaders of the opposition, two things struck out. According to Indian Express, firstly the language of the invitation made some leaders cringe. The invitation for the dinner that was sent out was only in Hindi and had no note in English, which distressed some minister as they could not read it. The second problem as pointed out by TMC’s Derek O’Brien was that the dinner did not have any non-vegetarian dishes on the menu.
