Delhi chief minister and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) supremo Arvind Kejriwal, currently in Tihar jail, on Monday, wrote a letter to the jail superintendent alleging a dire need for insulin amid escalating sugar levels.

According to PTI sources, Arvind Kejriwal has rejected claims made by jail authorities regarding AIIMS doctors’ dismissal of concerns about his health. In a letter addressed to the superintendent on Monday, he accused the jail administration of falsehoods, alleging they were fabricated under “political pressure.”

However, Tihar jail authorities have not yet responded to Kejriwal’s allegations. On Sunday, Tihar jail officials said they arranged a video call for Kejriwal with top doctors from AIIMS on April 20. They said during the call, neither Kejriwal nor the doctors talked about insulin.

On the other hand, AAP has put serious allegations on Tihar administration for refusal of insulin to Kejriwal, who suffers from diabetes, alleging a “conspiracy” to “kill” him. “Kejriwal wrote to Tihar jail superintendent saying he was hurt after reading the statement from jail authorities in newspapers,” a party source said, as PTI reported.

“In the letter, he said the statements of Tihar administration are false and said he has been asking for insulin on a daily basis. During the day, his sugar levels see a spike thrice and read anywhere between 250 to 320,” said a source from AAP.

In the letter, Kejriwal mentioned that AIIMS doctors did not reassure him that there was nothing to worry about. The Tihar administration stated on Sunday that AIIMS specialists had consulted with Kejriwal during the April 20 video call.

“After a 40-minute detailed consultation, Kejriwal was assured that there was no serious concern and was advised to continue with the prescribed medicines, which will be evaluated and reviewed regularly,” a jail official had said.

Kejriwal’s arrest stems from his arrest by the Enforcement Directorate on March 21 in connection with a money-laundering probe linked to Delhi’s scrapped excise policy. Since April 1, he has been lodged in Tihar jail, where his health concerns have sparked controversy, with AAP alleging a deliberate effort to endanger his life.
