In light of Prime Minister Narendra Modi‘s visit to Odisha, the state government has declared a holiday for all schools and colleges in the Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) area on September 17. The Prime Minister is all set to launch the state’s flagship scheme, ‘SUBHADRA’ during his visit to Bhubaneswar. The reason behind the decision to close the colleges and schools was because of a large crowd which is expected to be present at the event.

What is SUBHADRA Scheme?

Prime Minister Modi will launch the ‘SHUBHADRA’ scheme which aims to gain more than 1 crore women all over Odisha. Under the initiative, eligible women aged between 21 to 60 years will be granted Rs 50,000 over five years from 2024 to 2029. The funds will be given in two equal instalments of Rs 10,000 per year. The allotted fund will be directly transferred into the beneficiaries’ personal bank accounts through the help of Aadhaar-enabled Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT).

Additional initiatives to be announced

Along with the SUBHADRA scheme, Prime Minister Modi will also disseminate the first instalment of financial assistance to around 13 lakh beneficiaries from 14 states under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana-Gramin (PMAY-G). Moreover, the Griha Pravesh ceremony for 26 lakhs under both rural and urban PMAY programs is also scheduled to take place. The PMAY beneficiaries will get the house keys from PM Modi. The launch of the Awaas+2024 app is also on plan, which will allow the conducting of surveys of households for inclusion under the PMAY-G. The Operational Guidelines of Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana-Urban (PMAY-U) are also set to be launched.
