The incident reportedly took place at the Government Degree College, where the first-year student from an open university had come to take an exam.

According to the police, the accused, identified as a resident of Bengaluru, allegedly confronted the student near the college and attacked her with a knife after a heated argument over his romantic proposal, which she had rejected, PTI reported.

The accused fled the scene after the attack, official added.

The victim, who suffered injuries to her right hand, was taken to a hospital for treatment. She told police that the accused approached her, confessed his feelings, and then “attacked” her after she refused his proposal.

Preliminary investigations indicate that the two had connected on social media and had met previously in Bengaluru. Authorities suspect the attack stemmed from her rejection, though the exact motive is still under investigation.

The accused remains at large, and a case has been registered, police said.
