Manish Sisodia gets bail: In a major relief, the Supreme Court on Friday granted bail to AAP leader and former Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia in the money laundering cases related to the alleged Delhi liquor scam.

Noting that Sisodia has been in custody for 17 months without trial starting, the bench, comprising Justices BR Gavai and KV Viswanathan, said that this has deprived him of his right to a speedy trial.

After the judgment was pronounced, Additional Solicitor General SV Raju requested the Court to impose certain conditions akin to those imposed in the Arvind Kejriwal case – that he should not visit the Chief Minister’s office or the Delhi Secretariat. However, the bench rejected this request.

As Manish Sisodia gears up to walk out of Tihar Jail nearly 17 months after his arrest, the top court has set some bail conditions for him.

Here are Manish Sisodia’s bail conditions:

  • Manish Sisodia has to furnish Rs 10 lakh as bail bond.
  • He will also have to surrender his passport.
  • Sisodia will have to report to the police station every Monday as part of the bail conditions.
  • The AAP leader has been asked to refrain from attempting to influence witnesses or tamper with evidence.
  • Sisodia has been allowed to enter the Delhi Secretariat by the Supreme Court, which rejected an oral plea by the CBI and ED asking the AAP leader to be barred from discharging official duties.

Manish Sisodia had filed two separate petitions seeking bail – one, in the case registered by the CBI under the Prevention of Corruption Act, and the other, in the case registered by the ED under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA). He was first arrested by CBI and ED on February 26 and March 9 last year, respectively.
