Mumbai CA Suicide: A 32-year-old Chartered Accountant (CA) has died by suicide in Mumbai on July 5 after enduring months of mental harassment. According to Vakola police, the man, identified as Raj Leela More, consumed poison at his Santacruz residence after leaving a three-page suicide note, NDTV reported.
The note, which his mother found, names two people responsible for his death. He befriended them on Instagram. They minted crores of money from him after threatening him to make his intimate videos public, TOI reported.
The police have filed a case of abetment of suicide and extortion against two suspects and are currently investigating the case. No arrests have yet been made in the case.
Mumbai CA suicide: What has happened?
According to a report by TOI, More called his mother after he began vomiting from consuming poison. His mother sought help from the neighbours and rushed him to a nearby hospital.
This extreme step comes after two people – Rahul Parwani and Saba Qureshi – visited his home on June 7, per his mother. They visited his home after he filed a complaint against them for blackmailing him, TOI reported, quoting an officer.
His grieving mother, in her complaint, said that she took him in confidence and asked him to share what was bothering him. He then told her that he got in touch with Parwani and Qureshi in 2024 and since then they have been extorting money from him, the outlet further reported.
NDTV reported that the duo had blackmailed him into paying Rs 2.5 crore.
How did he manage to pay such a big amount?
Since the two accused were aware of his investments in the stock market and his high income given his profession, they quoted a large amount. They also pressured him into draining his savings and misappropriating company funds, multiple reports say.
According to the suicide note, More broke the savings account and even stole money from his company account. Additionally, they even forced him to hand over a luxury vehicle, NDTV reported.
Mumbai CA suicide: Three-page suicide note
The suicide note has three pages. One page is dedicated to his mother, another addressed to his colleagues and the third names the accused.
More apologised to his mother for his extreme step and urged his family to take care of themselves.
“To my dear one, sorry Mother, I could not be your good son, you had expectations from me, but I’m leaving you alone. I’m going for my deeds. May God never give you a son like me in your next life. I have been very bad, Poonam Aunty, please take care of my mother. I have a policy in various accounts, take that money and give it to my mother. A big sorry,” the suicide note says.
He apologised to his colleague Deepa Lakhani and claimed full responsibility for any financial wrongdoing, asserting that others in the company were unaware of his actions.
“Deepa Lakhani, today I have no words to apologise because I broke your trust. But believe me, this was the last time,” he wrote.
He added, “I had no intention to break your trust. Whatever fraud I did, I did it myself; no one came to know anything. I did not manipulate the statement (account). Shwetha and Jaiprakash had absolutely no idea about what was happening. Please do not take any action against them.”
More held Rahul and Saba responsible for his death.
“I, Raj More, am committing suicide today. Rahul Parwani is responsible for my suicide. He manipulated me and blackmailed me for months. He forced me to break my savings and stole money from my company account. Rahul Parwani and Saba Qureshi are responsible for my death,” he wrote.
