Sikkim Krantikari Morcha (SKM) supremo Prem Singh Tamang is slated to be sworn in as Chief Minister of the Himalayan state for a second consecutive term on Monday, according to officials.
Governor Lakshman Acharya will administer the oath of office and secrecy to Tamang and his Council of Ministers during the swearing-in ceremony at Paljor Stadium, they said. The council of ministers in Sikkim consists of 12 members, including the chief minister.
As many as 30,000 people will attend the ceremony, which is expected to take place at 4 pm on Monday.Meanwhile, stringent security measures have been deployed across Gangtok in anticipation of the event.
Tamang, aged 56, led SKM to an overwhelming victory in both the assembly and Lok Sabha elections. He was unanimously chosen as the leader of the legislature party during a meeting held on June 2. SKM secured 31 out of 32 assembly seats, with Tamang emerging victorious from the Rhenock and Soreng-Chakung constituencies.
In contrast, the opposition Sikkim Democratic Front (SDF), which had governed the state for 25 consecutive years until 2019, only secured one seat in the recent elections.
