The Supreme Court on Monday issued notice to Election Commission of India (ECI) and Centre on a PIL seeking direction to ensure that every political party publishes its memorandum, rules and regulations on home page of its official website. The petition was filed by senior advocate Ashwini Kumar Upadhyay.

Talking to the media, he said, “I have filed a PIL seeking regulation of political parties. Until Parliament enacts a law on this, the Supreme Court should frame guidelines.”

The development comes amid Bihar election 2025 campaigning where political parties are holding rallies and meetings to woo voters ahead of the Nov 6 and Nov 11 polling days.

The petitioner urged the top court to have an order in place to regulate political parties, and ensure transparency. The court has sought a response from both the election commission and the Central government as there is no such law as of now to address the matter.
