Actor Salman Khan and Mumbai MLA Zeeshan Siddique received fresh threats from a 20-year-old man based out of Noida, police said, reports The Indian Express. The accused, identified the accused as Gurphan Khan, has been arrested on charges of extortion.
Police said that the threat message was received on October 25 on the mobile number that the politician used to receive complaints from local residents. Siddique contacted Mumbai Police after the staff at his Bandra (East) office informed him about the message.
Based on the complaint filed by a member of Siddique’s staff, Ritesh More, the Nirmal Nagar police registered an FIR against the mobile user. A case was registered under sections 308(2), 308(5), and 351(1) of Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
The accused Khan’s number was traced to Noida.
The extortion case was lodged on Monday by the Nirmal Nagar police in Mumbai’s Bandra (East).
According to police, preliminary probe revealed that the accused sent the threat message to extort money.
Siddique’s father, Baba Siddique, a former MLA and minister, was shot dead on October 12 in Bandra (East), reportedly by members of the Lawrence Bishnoi gang.
Baba Siddique was well-known for hosting Iftar parties attended by Bollywood celebrities, with Salman Khan being notably close to the Siddique family. Khan has been a target of the Bishnoi gang for some time, and earlier this year, in April, gang members fired shots outside his residence in Bandra (West).
