Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren announced on Thursday that his government will provide Rs 1 lakh to beneficiaries of a financial assistance program for women over the next five years.

Speaking at a ceremony in Palamu, Soren transferred the first installment of Rs 1,000 under the “Jharkhand Mukhyamantri Maiyan Samman Yojana” (JMMSY), which will benefit 5.91 lakh women. The program aims to support women financially and foster economic independence within the state.

“We have started with an initial Rs 1,000 payment, and this will continue. I promise that within the next five years, each beneficiary will receive Rs 1 lakh,” Soren said.

The chief minister emphasised the importance of empowering women and strengthening rural areas to achieve development in Jharkhand. He highlighted his government’s efforts to bolster the “Sakhi Mandals” under the Jharkhand State Livelihood Promotion Society (JSLPS), noting that over Rs 10,000 crore has been distributed to these groups to promote women’s self-reliance and social contribution.

Soren also criticised the BJP, alleging that the opposition party is conspiring to undermine the Jharkhand government.

He accused the BJP of creating obstacles to his administration’s initiatives and claimed that the opposition had previously attempted to imprison him. Soren promised that the people of Jharkhand would respond to these challenges in the upcoming assembly elections.
