A day after the Congress party announced Priyanka Gandhi Vadra’s electoral debut from Kerala’s Wayanad, her husband Robert Vadra said that “She (Priyanka Gandhi) should be in the Parliament before me.” Reacting to the development, the son-in-law of Congress Parliamentary Party’s chairperson Sonia Gandhi said that he will follow his wife “whenever is the right time.”

On BJP’s allegation of nepotism, Vadra said that “they are worried because they know Priyanka will be raising key issues. She gave the slogan – ladki hoon, lad sakti hoon (I am girl and I can fight). The Congress will fight the anti-people agenda and ensure a secular government,” Vadra was quoted as saying by PTI

Before the Lok Sabha elections, Robert Vadra had mentioned that there were calls from various parts of the country for him to run for office in Amethi, a traditional stronghold of the Gandhi family. Despite this, the Congress leadership chose to field Kishori Lal Sharma, a loyalist of the Gandhi family, in Amethi. Sharma went on to defeat BJP’s Smriti Irani, who had previously defeated Rahul Gandhi in 2019. The BJP used Vadra’s exclusion as an opportunity to mock him, suggesting he was being marginalized.
